He is born in 1967 and get PhD in Marine Hydrodynamics in 1995 at Harbin Engineering Univesity. He is the ChangJiang Schoar Professer at HEU. He has published more than 100 journal papers and two Books on water waves and floating body dynamics. Prof. Duan is now in charge of the Numerical Tank Innovation Research Project from 2016 to 2019.

Accurate prediction of surface wave flow and ship motion interaction is very important in ship design. A very hot topic in recent years is the efficient prediction of ship added resistance in waves. This depends on the solution of forward speed hydrodynamic problems of ship. Even through many published wave-ship interaction papers are available for particular ship. Unfortunately, there are no recognized three dimensional hydrodynamic method for real practical ship. It is found the reasons for this situations are due to corner boundary. A hybrid TEBEM is developed at HEU. The flow domain is divided into two parts where the inner domain is solved by 2nd order TEBEM with simple Green function and the outer domain is solved by zero order TEBEM with transient free surface Green function. The two solutions are matched through continues of potential and normal velocity on wall-sided artificial surface. The solution by hybrid TEBEM is stable for ship with large flare where the solution by general panel method with transient free surface Green function is divergent. The results show that TEBEM can provide high accuracy solutions for wave added resistance of practical ships.
