报告题目:Physics of musical instruments at LAUM and personal work on reedwind instruments and waveguide metrology

报告人:Jean-Pierre DALMONT教授

主办单位:水声工程学院

报告人简介:Jean-Pierre DALMONT, Research director, Laboratory of Acoustics of Le Mans University, Professor, Universitédu Maine Département de Physique-Mécanique-Acoustique Laboratoired'Acoustique de l'Universitédu Maine (LAUM, UMR CNRS 6613).

报告内容简介:Physics of musical instruments is part of the team“waveguides and structures”. The main goal is to understand the physical behavior of musical instruments with applications to instruments factory. One of our activities is to design measurement and simulation tools to help instrument maker in the design or control of instruments (PAFI project with ITEMM and other French laboratories).

My personal work is mainly centered on waveguides and physics of reed wind instrument. These instruments couple an acoustic resonator (the instrument) and a mechanical oscillator (the reed) set into vibrations by the blowing of the player. So my studies are focused on resonator properties (especially harmonicity), the reed (what makes the difference between “good” and “bad” reeds?) and the search for the solutions of the coupled problem. For this last point the analogy with the bowed string was fruitful (Raman model).

Besides musical acoustics my expertise is sometimes required for various industrial applications involving pipes or horns, as well for the modelling as for the measurements (vehicle exhaust line, ventilation, thermoacoustics engine, etc.).
